A Widow's Heart

He's Still the God of Miracles!

We write this newsletter with a thankful and humble heart to tell you some of what the Lord has done over the past 20 years from the official start of Blastoff Music Ministries in 2003.

As a family of five, God began stirring our hearts to step out in faith, into full-time evangelism ministry. Yes, we had plenty of critics and nay-sayers saying, “Are you crazy? How will you pay your bills? Are you sure? Did you really hear from God?” Well to be honest, those voices did make us get on our knees and seek the Lord in a more passionate way.

So we set out. I resigned my Worship Pastor position and we headed Northwest from Fort Worth, Texas into the great unknown. Glenda and I loaded up our family and started traveling and ministering, walking through every open door the Lord gave us. If we were to write down every incredible part of this ministry journey, this would be a book, so let me share just a couple of highlights.

We left Texas, working with Dave Roever’s ministry, and landed in Layton, Utah in April of 2003. We rented a beautiful home with a stunning view of the Wasatch Mountains in our front yard. Getting that house was a hug from God and a sign that He was making a way where there seemed to be no way. Glenda and I, along with our 3 daughters, started preparing our ministry presentation. We wrote songs, learned how to make a newsletter, (which is quite hilarious as we look back at them) and prayed for supporters to join us for the long journey of ministry. I remember praying as I would walk to the mailbox each day, “Lord, You know our needs and we know You called us on this journey. Please put our ministry on the hearts of Your people.” Every week God would answer that prayer and provide for our ministry. I’m tearing up writing this to you because we have many widows that give to this ministry and we know that it is a great sacrifice for them. If it weren’t for these widows, I wouldn’t be writing this letter today.

One of our favorite stories: We were traveling from Utah to Texas on a 3-week tour in our suburban pulling a trailer with our PA and musical equipment. Driving through Colorado Springs, we hit rush hour traffic at 5 p.m. on a Thursday night and our transmission started to slip. Trying to find another gear that would work to get us to a place to pull over, I would find one and then it too would strip out. I managed to pull the suburban into a Napa brake store. It was raining torrents of rain as I went inside to tell the man we just lost our transmission and asked if he knew who we could call.

He said, “I have a friend who owns his own shop but it’s 5:30 p.m. and he most likely has closed up at this time, but I will try.” The owner, Barry answered the call! He told him our problem and Barry said he would not only send a tow truck, but would have his wife Jean bring her car to pick up the family. God was getting ready to show us that He had this! We were in a panic because we needed to be in Glen Rose, Texas in 2 days to open for a huge outdoor arena Passion Play called, “The Promise.” Glenda was on the phone with our insurance company and also trying to find us a hotel. Colorado Springs was having a big event and she couldn't find an available room! Barry, the transmission shop owner said, “We would love for you all to stay at our home tonight, we have plenty of room.” What?! Staying at a home of people we just met? Ok God, what’s going on here? They saw the crazy predicament we were in and were so kind and reassuring. Once we arrived at their beautiful home, we saw a gorgeous mini grand piano in their front room. We had explained that we were music evangelists on our way to Texas and they asked us to do a mini-concert right there in their living room. We had a glorious time of worshipping God together! We ordered pizza and we all got to know each other. We discovered that they were the singles pastors at their local Four Square Church! Wow, isn’t God amazing?! The next morning, Barry and Jean pulled all three of their techs to work on our suburban transmission to get us back on the road. After 11 hours, they got the transmission rebuilt! We prepared to head out at 7 p.m. Though we now had to drive through the night to make it to our Texas event, we were incredibly thankful. I thanked Barry for sacrificially helping us get the suburban fixed, especially on such short notice and went to settle the bill with him so we could be on our way. Barry said, “Hey Greg, you take your family to Texas and reach souls for Jesus, this one is on me, No Charge!” I stood there and had no words to say as I gave him the biggest brotherly hug ever! At the same time Glenda was in the office with Jean and pulled out her credit card to pay the bill. Jean slid the card back to Glenda and said, “Every once in a while God sends us someone to bless, and HE CHOSE YOU.” We along with our girls, got to see one of the miracles of the Lord right there as we drove off crying and praising God!

There are countless stories of how God has met our needs and used many others to provide for the needs we’ve encountered over the past 20 years of this ministry.

Our prayer for you is that you too will trust the Lord for what He is calling you to do. Step out in faith and do it! It’s not an easy road, but the rewards are amazing!

How can you help?

Today many of our widows are getting older (I can’t imagine how great their reward in heaven will be!) and we need others to step out with us and support this ministry. God has not finished with our assignment and the harvest is so very plentiful. Glenda and I will continue to go through the open doors and share the gospel through His word and through the songs. Our Vietnam ministry is stronger than ever and we will continue to travel and minister to the Vietnamese people as long as the Lord allows us to.

“For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].” Ephesians 2:10 AMP
